14th ATiC meeting
Opocno / Czech
August 2002

Location

The 14th ATiC meeting in Opocno/Czech Republic was scheduled to take place from 15th of August 2002 until 18th of August 2002. Due to the century flood happening in the mid of August we were very unsure if this event could happen.

Finally we decided to do it and when I started in Germany the weather was quite nice and sunny. The trip lead us through lots of flooded districts and especially those coming from the north had to choose big redirections to reach Opocno.

Anyway, finally nearly all of us managed to arrive in Opocno and we were very lucky for our decision. There was even lots of sun at the beautiful Lake Broumar during the following days.

Opocno Castle

This meeting was perfectly organized by ATiC #1459, Petr Smola. The campsite of Opocno is very well equipped and the town's swimming pool is directly nearby. If you want to learn more about the area, check out

Coordinates of the campsite are:

Report

Different ways of touring - finally all of us arrived safe in Opocno!

As usual this meeting started with heavy - no, not headache, but heavy preparations on the bikes. It seems that meanwhile most ATiCs spend no time or money for spare parts or service in their hometowns but shift all necessary work to the next ATiC meeting. This time we learned about changing of tires, replacing wheel bearings, glueing broken plastic tanks, fixing broken front panniers or simply moving 50l of fuel from one tank to the other.

The next days were spent with touring through the endless hills around Opocno ...

The more tougher ones among us choose an exciting offroad track nearby ...

The evenings! Off course - ATiC BBQ. After arrival of the mobil grill and the huge pig I didn't believe that ATiCs would manage to get this down but 2 hours later nothing was left!

In the evenings we choose between exhaustive sitins around the bikes directly at the coastline of Lake Broumar ...

.. and the excellent restaraunts nearby (hmmm, Palatschinka!).
